Let’s start with what EFT tapping is
EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is a gentle technique that involves tapping with your fingertips on specific points on the face and upper body.
It’s often described as “acupuncture without needles,” as it works with the body’s energy system while also bringing attention to thoughts and emotions.
By combining talking (mind) and tapping (body), EFT helps calm the nervous system and makes it easier to process how you’re feeling- without becoming overwhelmed.
So… what is an EFT tapping session actually like
If you’re considering trying EFT tapping, you might be wondering what really happens in a session - and whether it will feel comfortable, especially online.
The good news is: it’s much simpler (and gentler) than most people expect.
You don’t need to prepare anything
There’s nothing you need to learn or practise beforehand.
You simply show up as you are - whether you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or not quite sure what’s wrong. That’s already enough to begin.
It starts with a conversation
At the beginning of the session, you’ll talk about what’s been going on for you and what you’d like support with. This helps guide the session.
Then you’ll be gently guided through tapping
Your practitioner will show you where to tap - on the points on your face and upper body - and suggest words to say as you tap.
You’ll follow along at your own pace.
You don’t have to get the words “right.” In fact, you’re encouraged to adjust them so they feel natural and true to you.
You might notice things shifting as you go
As you tap, it’s common for thoughts, emotions, or even physical sensations to come up.
Some people feel emotional. Others feel calmer quite quickly. Sometimes the changes are subtle - like a quiet sense of relief or a bit more space in your thinking.
There’s no right or wrong way to experience it.
Why tapping works
EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) combines gentle tapping on acupressure points with focused attention on what you’re feeling.
This helps calm the nervous system while allowing emotions to be processed - rather than pushed away.
It’s often described as a bridge between the mind and body.
You can use it outside of sessions too
One of the benefits of EFT is that it’s something you can take with you.
Once you’ve experienced it, you can use tapping:
-
in stressful moments
-
before or during travel
-
when anxiety rises
-
or simply to feel more grounded
Working with a practitioner can help you feel supported and go deeper, especially when things feel more intense.
