The ONE Life Reset Tool You Will Ever Need – and it beats retreats
You know there must be a retreat out there, somewhere, that has your name on it?
Yes, I am still searching too. One that is not punitive and doesn’t include the horror of room sharing. If you, like me, think mud baths are best left to spuds and you don’t want to spend £800 drinking kale when you’ve snuck crisps in your suitcase and replaced the contents of your Evian water bottle with vodka, then read on.
Tired and Busy? Join the Human Race
Two words that are banned from the lexicon of my family banter is “tired” and “busy”. Listen, we are ALL tired and we are ALL busy – it’s a given like taxes and cellulite.
We all crave some serious de-toxing downtime. A sense of “getting on top of” something, life, maybe, and resetting the default from chaos to chill. To feel, at last, in some sort of flow with our lives.
So, how to reset your life? Do this one thing…
Here I share the simplest life hack that doesn’t involve esoteric breathing methods, no rye grass smoothies or the dread of gongs at dawn. Welcome to the White Space Day.
This is a day you “white out” in your diary well in advance (you simply must have your home to yourself). It’s important to eschew all offers of coffees or lunch with friends, no appointments with salon or gym and nothing, literally zilch, in the diary for your day.
This is how it works
You don’t have an alarm to wake up to. You lie in for as long as you want. Wake when you are ready.
- Tea or coffee in bed is recommended.
- You have no where to go and nothing you “need” to do.
- You may – creatively potter around the house.
- Pootling is an unsung art.
- A slow leisurely breakfast or lunch is recommended.
- Take your time over everything.
- There is no time limit.
- There is no expectation to meet, achieve or do anything.
- By the minute you decide what to do next.
- Shower or bath. Netflix or read during the day (I know, it feels strangely deviant doesn’t it?).
- Remember, go at your own pace. No pressure to do anything or be anywhere.
- Embrace the sublime joy of nothingness.
If you want to upgrade the experience turn off all tech and outside noise (TV and radio), go for a walk in nature. Have an afternoon nap.
Relish silence and solitude.
Your nervous system will calm. Your mind will thank you and peace will be yours.
This is something your coach does every Friday. It’s NNMT – Non-Negotiable Me Time. It refreshes, grounds and restores. Busy doing nothing is the new power play.
