Relationship Therapist in London

Hi there and thank you for taking the time to look through my information. I am a qualified RE-CBT therapist, experienced in helping with mild to complex mental health issues. I have an integrative style of therapy focussing on your specific needs, depending on the outcomes you want to achieve. Whilst my expertise helps me to guide you and work alongside you, CBT can be hard work at times and we may be working at deeper levels of self awareness helping to uncover problem areas or challenging deeply held core beliefs. This is common and part of the CBT therapeutic process but I will always work in your best interests at a pace you can manage. I will help develop structure in your life, with a clear framework to understand yourself better and improve your relationship with yourself and others. Through this process you should improve your confidence, communication skills and overall well-being as you apply the strategies you will learn. Alongside private practice, I have worked for a number of years in different NHS services in England, Higher Education (Student Services), as well as in multi-agency Drug and Alcohol services where I trained.

Background & Qualifications

I have a long history of work experience in the social sector starting back in 1997 in roles mostly working with adults. These began with special needs/vulnerable adults in a private capacity, within specialist services, but include the voluntary sector, Primary Care psychology services in the NHS and in private practice with our team of chartered psychologists and other health professionals. I have completed an Undergraduate degree in Psychology, a Certificate in Counselling skills and a Masters degree in RE-CBT. I hold membership with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP membership no. 150206) and the British Psychological Society (BPS membership no. 157428.)

My Specialisms

Whether you are trying to cope with emotional difficulties, struggling to understand yourself or why you are living in a vicious cycle, having relationship problems, painful life experiences or work-related stress, then perhaps you could benefit from discussing your problems with me. I work with adults in one-to-one or couples therapy, providing short-long term therapy. I have trained in managing addictions (drug and alcohol dependency) but competent in dealing with anger management, anxiety disorders (including; GAD, health anxiety, OCD, panic disorder, PTSD, social anxiety, and specific phobias), eating disorders, low mood/depression and low self-esteem and stress

Approach to Therapy & How I Work

Most clients appreciate my empathic nature and collaborative style albeit a challenging process of working towards your goals. Therapy can be an explorative journey of key problem areas which opens you to rediscover your own strengths. Guiding clients through this process, can be inspiring and empowering, as you develop greater self-awareness and self-reflection skills - learning to become your own therapist. Therein, I aim to teach you specific skills and techniques to help improve unhealthy views of self, others and the world around you.

Start of therapy involves us briefly discussing your primary concerns before a full assessment of the problem areas, your expected goals for therapy and a deeper discussion on the framework of therapy I will be using for our sessions. On the basis of you agreeing to work with me, there will be 2 main stages to treatment: firstly, identifying and working on problem areas and obstacles to personal growth that may be distressing you. This usually requires a greater proportion of our time together. Thereafter, learning skills to maintain positive well-being and developing a deeper self-awareness to help you improve confidence, relationships and communication.

CBT is the general framework of therapy I use, an umbrella term for a number of different ways of applying talking therapies that aim to help clients change unhelpful thinking styles in order to break unhealthy cycles you may be unwittingly maintaining. My core training has been in RE-CBT, developed originally as a transdiagnostic form of therapy ( can be used across different problem areas). RE-CBT doesn't aim to remove the adversity itself, but by using rational logical principles and flexible thinking styles, it can help you to develop greater tolerance and acceptance of one's adversities and in doing so, find solutions to overcoming further adversity, minimise distress and help reach goals
