Approach to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy & How I Work

I'd like to reach a shared understanding with you of the key issues you want to work on, so that we're both working together on the same problems. I like to get my clients practising new ways of thinking and being in sessions ( and more importantly, outside of sessions in the real world) so that you can have that experience of success; and all this takes place in the context of a warm, empathic therapeutic relationship that promotes trust. Where there is an existing research evidence base, we can use that to keep our work on track, all the while remembering that everybody is an individual and an approach that works with, for example, one person with depression, may not work for someone else with similar difficulties. I usually offer weekly sessions which can then be tapered off once you feel you're at a point of being able to do so. I work out of three therapy centres in Sheffield, UK (on Thursdays and Fridays), but also offer zoom sessions to those in other parts of the UK and the world at other times.
