Dawn McLaughlin
Counsellor in St Albans

I am an integrative counsellor, who works with children, adolescents and adults. I aim to provide a welcoming, supportive and safe space for my clients, so they can feel comfortable exploring difficult emotions.

I am passionate about normalising the ongoing conversation about mental health in society, lowering the stigma around therapy and empowering people to reach out unashamedly for the support they need.

Background & Counselling Qualifications

I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and am an accredited member of the NCPS.

I have worked with a diverse range of clients on a wide range of issues, both online and in person. I keep my work up to date with CPD trainings throughout the year.

My Specialisms

I have experience working with the following issues: anxiety, depression, self-harm and suicidal ideation, neurodivergence, LGBTQI+ issues, ating disorders, anger, domestic violence, low self-esteem, drug abuse, family issues and more

Approach to Counselling & How I Work

My approach is attachment-based and trauma-informed, and I am interested especially in how our mental health can affect our physical well-being.

I offer the use of creative arts (drawing, painting, sand play, poetry, clay) to help my clients express and process complex feelings.

Throughout the therapeutic process, I focus on gaining a trusting relationship, raising self-esteem, building inner strength and resources, and helping my clients navigate their way through their issues.
