Gordon McIntosh Counselling

Gordon McIntosh
Counsellor in London

I am approachable, analytically minded, and open to different perspectives. I value patience and pragmatism, and while I can be intense and focused when required, I also offer humour, empathy, and a sense of lightness in my work.

Background & Counselling Qualifications

With over 40 years of experience in mental health care, teaching, and psychotherapeutic practice, I hold a Psychology degree from London University, Postgraduate Diplomas from the British Association of Psychotherapists and Oxford University, and an MA in Psychotherapy from Leeds Beckett University. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

My Specialisms

In recent years, I've developed a strong commitment to physical health, particularly through regular exercise and gym work. This has deepened my view of mind and body as interconnected, and I often invite clients to explore how movement—whether through yoga, walking, or other forms—might complement their emotional well-being. This invitation is always respectful of personal preference and capacity.

Approach to Counselling & How I Work

My approach is primarily Jungian psychodynamic, integrated with other theoretical frameworks to respond flexibly to each client's unique and evolving needs. I have a particular focus on working with young people, recognising the complexities of developmental transitions. My earlier career in further and higher education also informs a reflective, educative strand in my practice, encouraging personal inquiry in a structured but spacious way.

Booking Your Assessment I am currently accepting new referrals and look forward to meeting you for an assessment session. In this initial meeting, we'll explore what's brought you to therapy, what you're hoping to work on, and cover practicalities like confidentiality, boundaries, session times, holidays, and fees. It's also a space for you to ask any questions you may have. I aim to make therapy accessible and affordable. The assessment session lasts 50 minutes and is charged at the same rate as a regular session. The base fee is £85, offered on a sliding scale. The sliding scale is in place to support those on lower incomes. If you're on a low wage or currently unemployed, please don't hesitate to get in touch for more details.
