Trauma
A trauma informed practice is a set of principles and approaches that aim to help people who have experienced trauma, to feel safer and empowered. It is grounded in the understanding that trauma exposure can impact an individual's neurological, biological, psychological and social development and their ability to feel safe or develop trusting relationships. It acknowledges the need to see beyond an individual's presenting behaviours and to ask, ‘What does this person need?' rather than ‘What is wrong with this person?
For young people
I provide counselling for teenage girls and women aged 16 years or over. When seeking support for a teenager, it is important to know that the counsellor is suitably qualified to work with that age group. My work involves providing emotional and therapeutic support with the aim of building a teenager's resilience. Counselling offers young people a safe space to discuss and work through things they struggle with.
