Counsellor in Monmouth

About
My name is Lurdes Magalhaes
My name is Lurdes and I'm a Integrative Counsellor based in Monmouth, South Wales, when you sit with me in the therapeutic space, my attention is fully and exclusively for you. This is something that we rarely experience, and is why people often struggle with feelings of not being heard or seen. I create the space for you to talk and explore your feelings; what may be going on underneath the feelings and how your life experiences have shaped you.

Since the start of my career, I have had a passion for working towards helping clients achieve their goals and stepping forward in their lives. I have experience of working with anxiety, depression, relationship issues and all forms of trauma, amongst many others, as well as working in different therapeutic ways, including Psychodynamic and Person Centred.

These sessions are tailored to your needs, working at your pace, always with a solution in mind ensuring that you are comfortable during the whole process where together we can explore any issues you bring to the session.

I recognise every client is an individual, this is the reason I offer an initial session where we meet and identify whether you want to start your counselling journey with me. I understand that the first step on this journey can be overwhelming please be reassured I will always work at a pace that you feel comfortable with, and we are working towards your desired outcome.

Life can be hard sometimes and struggling with things alone is the loneliest place. Counselling offers you the space to say things that you can't to anyone else, and know that you won't be judged.

I am fully qualified, insured counsellor and member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and abide by their code of ethics. I have trained with the CPCAB-(Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body) model that sets out the essential elements of practice that are common to all counselling approaches. I work as a Counsellor for charities and agencies.

I always aim to ensure I use the best approach for you. During my career I have increased my training and skills working across different areas such as OCD, managing anger, Trauma, Bereavement and many more.

My Specialisms

In embracing a creative psychotherapeutic approach, my goal is to facilitate not only symptom relief but also sustainable personal growth and lasting positive change. Together, we embark on a journey that transcends the traditional boundaries of therapy, unlocking the transformative potential within each individual.

In my practice I embrace a dynamic and creative approach aimed at fostering a transformative journey for individuals seeking support. Recognizing the diverse and intricate nature of human experiences, I use innovative methods to engage clients on a profound level, surpassing the conventional boundaries of traditional therapy.

Central to my therapeutic philosophy is the belief that creativity serves as a catalyst for healing and self-discovery. Through the integration of various creative modalities such as art, narrative techniques, mindfulness exercises, and expressive therapies, I invite clients to explore and express their thoughts, emotions, and aspirations in non-traditional ways. This allows for a more holistic and personalized exploration of your inner world, fostering a deeper connection with yourself and the therapeutic process.

Approach to Counselling & How I Work

I offer supportive, compassionate, non-judgmental, confidential, yet proactive and creative Counselling in a warm, comfortable, private setting in Monmouth and Gloucester. I mainly work from a Psychodynamic perspective which means clients embark on a profound exploration of self. It is a therapeutic odyssey where the canvas of the mind becomes a palette for understanding and healing. However, I am able to integrate other approaches to counselling and have found that many problems have their roots buried in past experiences.

I believe in the individual's ability to grow and develop in the way that is best for them, so I'm always guided by the client needs feelings and pace.
It is a collaborative journey, empowering individuals to confront challenges, rewrite narratives, and embrace personal growth. In this therapeutic alliance, the transformative power of connection and insight converges, paving the way for profound self-discovery and the restoration of emotional well-being.
