Marta de Madariaga Lopez Counselling

Marta De Madariaga Lopez
Counsellor in Brighton

As a highly motivated and dedicated professional, I have provided psychological services within the National Health Service and as an independent practitioner in the United Kingdom since 2001. I am experienced in using psychological therapies to help alleviate emotional distress across the lifespan.

I am particularly interested in understanding internal as well as external factors that might have convened at this time and that may play a fundamental role in the way you are currently feeling. Some of these internal factors might include cognition (e.g., memory, attention, planning and organisational skills) sleep, hormones, pain, nutrition, movement/exercise and your ability to self-sooth. External aspects include climate change, abuse, relationships, work and social life amongst others.

Although, have worked in-person with people for most of her career and is happy in this approach, I now offer interventions online. I see the use of technology as an opportunity to connect with people in ways that have not been possible in the past. I feel that this mode of working offers greater choice, accessibility and creativity as well as efficiency in meeting your goals.

Additionally, my commitment to professional growth is evident through my pursuit of continuous learning and development and her involvement in research projects that has allowed me to stay at the forefront of the latest developments in the field of clinical psychology.

My Specialisms

I employ trauma-informed approaches that transcent clinical diagnosis to understand the complex and pervasive impact of trauma and difficult experiences on a person's worldview, relationships and ways of engaging with services and staff (Sweeney et al 2016; 2018a).

I am familiar and work regularly with difficulties that include depression, anxiety, eating and substance use problems, chronic health conditions and relationship concerns.

Approach to Counselling & How I Work

I see adult clients with a broad range of psychological difficulties and life issues. My particular interests are PTSD, anxiety - including generalised anxiety, panic attacks and phobias; depression and bipolar mood problems; relationship issues and work-related stress. I employ a number of different approaches in my work, including CBT, EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and mindfulness. I can also provide focused psychodynamic therapy and am interested in integrative approaches to clinical issues.

Please email me - we can arrange to discuss your concerns and ascertain whether I am able to meet your needs. There is no obligation to continue after an initial discussion if you should not wish to do so.
