I am committed to on-going CPD and have completed a range of further specialised training courses.
My main area of specialism is trauma work, particularly using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). I have extensive experience supporting people to process both recent and childhood trauma, including experiences that may still feel confusing, overwhelming, or difficult to put into words. EMDR can be especially helpful when past events continue to affect how you feel about yourself, your relationships, or your sense of safety in the world. Many clients come to therapy knowing something doesn't feel right, even if they are unsure why, and trauma-focused work can gently help make sense of this.
My work as a Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychotherapist focuses on relationship and identity issues, as well as more complex or long-standing emotional difficulties. This approach allows us to explore underlying patterns and experiences that may continue to influence how you feel, think, and relate to others.
As a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, I have particular expertise in working with anxiety-related problems, including Generalised Anxiety Disorder, stress, sleep difficulties, and social anxiety or phobias. CBT offers practical tools to help manage symptoms while supporting meaningful and lasting change.
Overall, I aim to tailor therapy to each individual, drawing on different approaches to support healing, understanding, and meaningful change.
My approach to therapy is collaborative, thoughtful, and tailored to each individual. I aim to meet you where you are, while also offering thoughtful challenge when it is needed. I believe meaningful change comes from feeling understood and supported, alongside having a willingness to persist and an openness to change. I am particularly skilled at identifying underlying patterns and root causes, helping to make sense of how past experiences continue to influence present difficulties.
EMDR is central to my work and is a highly effective therapy that can be adapted to a wide range of psychological difficulties, not only trauma. EMDR focuses on resolving the underlying causes of distress rather than simply managing symptoms, and many clients experience significant shifts in insight, emotional relief, and overall wellbeing. The work is always paced carefully, with safety and stability as priorities.
Psychotherapy offers space to explore deeper, long-standing difficulties and how these may have shaped your sense of self and relationships. Together, we make sense of difficult feelings, fears, resistances, longings, and disappointments, supporting deeper understanding and lasting change.
When working within a CBT framework, I focus on how past experiences are maintained in the present through patterns of thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and physical responses. CBT offers practical tools for coping and problem-solving, which I often integrate with other approaches such as Compassion-Focused Therapy and mindfulness, adapting the work to suit your needs and preferences.
