ROHAN RECKORD Massage Therapy

Rohan Reckord
Massage Therapist in London

Hello, and thank you for taking time to look at my profile.

I feel as though there has never been a more important time for touch and to be more specific, massage! Whether we are working from our own homes or from offices, we all can build up stress and work related tension. Typically, these problems can translate to the body in particular with the back, neck and shoulders. A lot of lower back problems can stem from tight gluteals (bum muscles) because they are not being activated properly or not at all; or even tight hamstrings ( rear legs) because they are not being stretched especially when we are sitting on a chair for 8 hours or more a day.

When you come to me with these problems, I will ask specific questions and asses what is the root problem and work from there. I will then recommend a treatment plan which will include certain exercises that you will need to engage with, because I believe that by encouraging my clients to take an active part in their own recovery, this will make the process of the healing of the injury go much quicker, and you will be happier with the results.

Background & Massage Therapy Qualifications

Many moons ago, I was a theatre performer and the shows that had lots of movement and required more physical energy, employed a massage therapist. I realised the advantage of having a massage and how good it made me feel afterwards: it had struck a chord with me. I was always naturally drawn to helping my friends with back and shoulder rubs anyway, ( I was christened with the title, 'Magic Hands' after many-a-session).

My show was coming to an end after a long run in the West End in 2007, so I decided to start a 9 month BTEC dip Level 4 for Sports & Remedial Massage at the North London School of Sports Massage (NLSSM). It was a very intensive course, because not only was there lots of study, we also had to have completed 100 massages with notes, ongoing course work, papers to be completed, finally, written and practical exams. It was tough, but well worth it because I always had a keen interest with the workings of the human body, so with this academic study, my depth of knowledge is very precious to me.

My Specialisms

I deal with a few office workers and people who are either amateur or semi professional sports enthusiasts, particularly long distance runners, triathletes, and even a few sports coaches.

Neck, back, gluteals, shoulders and forearms are no stranger to me, as they are normally the hot spots that need looking after. I'm also very good with treatment of injured legs, whether they are hamstrings, quads, calves of the anterior femur.

I tend to find Trigger Point or Acupressure therapy very conducive to positive outcomes within my skill set. There are also some Muscle Energy techniques, where sometimes you will be asked to provide resistance to a certain stretch that I may perform on you, where the angle of range of motion will be increased.

Myofascial Release technique is also a discipline that I may incorporate into my practice when needs must. This includes the 'Laying of Hands' (with no oil or wax) directly onto the area in question; this allows the soft tissue, i.e., fascia, to melt and soften, therefore enabling access to the muscles which lay deeper to the fascia.

Also, with continued professional development, I trained to perform reflexology for feet and the face. I find that both of these practices leave my clients rested and extremely relaxed after this session has been incorporated into the body massage or as an individual session.

Approach to Massage Therapy & How I Work

One of the most important things I can do as a therapist is to listen to my clients. Even though you may be seeking help to improve your muscle and joint functionality, a lot of the time, whether you know it or not, you may be carrying a lot of emotional stress. My job is to make you feel safe and secure. You may receive the remedy on a verbal or non-verbal platform where you might feel sad (crying) because of some deep emotional trauma that may have not been dealt with.

I offer a cool temperament and honest approach to clients as I like them to be relaxed and well informed.
