Emma West
Mindfulness Practitioner in Newport-On-Tay

I am a Clinical Practitioner in Neurolinguistic Psychotherapy, and I am passionate about supporting young people and adults to discover their true capabilities and create positive changes to support them in achieving their goals, whether they are educational or personal. I set up 'Educating Minds', a therapeutic coaching platform to support and facilitate individuals to achieve and maintain these positive changes in a safe and non-judgmental environment. The changes are rapid, and the techniques are easily learned and, most importantly, the outcome can be lasting!
Dealing with life's challenges is not easy and I understand how hard it can be to find a way forward away from dark thoughts and into positive behaviour. Therefore, I do what I do; to work with clients to support them to build a better life and to understand their thoughts and behaviours better so as they can make positive changes that are effective and lasting. I work using Neuro Linguistic Programming techniques alongside cognitive behavioural strategies and positive psychology.

When I'm not working to support people in bettering their lives you will find me with our 2 dogs, walking the fields and surrounding countryside. Being outdoors in the fresh air, enjoying the changing seasons is my therapy.

Background & Mindfulness Qualifications

I have been an English Language teacher for over 15 years, where most of my classroom practice has been in further educational settings as well as teaching for corporate organisations. I became interested in learning how to create positive relationships and build trust in a learning environment which then led me to my Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Clinical Neuro Linguistic Psychotherapy practice which I have been doing for over 5 years now. In maintaining an integrated therapeutic approach in all areas of my work, I can support and establish success patterns for my clients to build on interventions and positive outcomes. I follow the ethical standards, boundaries, and professional practice of the Association for Neurolinguistic Programming (ANLP) and the British Association for Counselling Psychotherapy (BACP)

My Specialisms

Stress, anxiety, negative self-talk and low self-esteem are areas which I work closely with. I have found in teaching my clients about language patterns and using a variety of cognitive restructuring techniques and neuroscience gives them an opportunity to develop a more accurate and compassionate sense of worth. Developing new skills around resilience and tapping into existing resources can create a real whole human framework. I follow the humanistic approach and recognise that we all have the ability to change as human beings.

Approach to Mindfulness & How I Work

I listen in a non-judgemental, safe and respectful manner always in sessions. Maintaining all privacy requirements and data protection in all aspects of my work is also of ethical and professional importance to me as a practitioner.
Building in a little humour where appropriate and even in the very first session making sure that clients leave the session with more choices than when they came with. Identifying and teaching grounding techniques and building hope is very important to me so as a client can move forward and make the changes and meet the needs that may be missing in their lives.
I work online as well as in person. Delivering sessions either on Zoom or Teams or from Educating Minds office space in Dundee, Scotland.
