I bring varied challenging personal life experience to my work and broad work experience. I have worked at various levels within counselling and more in large organisations with my last role before self-employment as the Counselling Team Lead for Manchester Mind.
I have been in counselling practice since 2010 and qualified in 2011. I have provided counselling for various counselling charities, schools and larger charitable organisations in the mental health sector as previously mentioned. I undertook clinical supervision training in 2019.
I undertake a lot more than the minimum training / continued professional development requirements sometimes lead by interest, other times clients and need.
My personal interest is in trauma and the impact this has on mental health and well-being. Trauma, small or big, past, present, one-off incidents or long-term/ongoing, can have immense detrimental impact on confidence, self-esteem, ability to think, cope and relax and lead to living with worry, anxiety, stress, low mood & depression. Trauma is held in our bodies and can manifest in inexplicable pain and also affect responses to seemingly normal people/situations and having a negative impact on family, friendships and colleagues leading to feeling lonely.
I also have an interest in ADHD clients and supporting them in their journey, be that unsure, undiagnosed or diagnosed. I can help think through diagnosis and if wanted / needed and help develop understanding and coping strategies for the challenging areas.
I'm person centred trained but with further training I now class myself as an integrative counsellor, i.e. bringing into sessions what feels would be useful and helpful whilst holding the client at the centre of the work.
I'm grounded, warm, experienced and effective - my aim is that you feel comfortable, relaxed and safe to open up and be honest in counselling.
I'm flexible with appointments and don't tie clients into a specific weekly slots which I finds helps with clients budgets and work / life pattern.
