I initially took up a degree in psychology in the early 1990s and after receiving a good (2.1) honours degree, I went on to study for a masters in Cognitive Science at the New Bulgarian University.
A couple of years later I ended up working for a global healthcare provider and became interested in counselling/psychotherapy. I trained between 2007 and 2010 (being an NHS associate counsellor in those years) and went on to become an accredited counsellor/psychotherapist with the BACP shortly after.
I have been full time counsellor/psychotherapist for well over ten years and see clients in the office, online, on the telephone and for walking therapy (sometimes known as 'walk and talk').
Walking therapy is my favourite type of therapy! This means that while talking both therapist and client get some fresh air, exercise and often some heartwarming views, sounds etc.
It has been found that people often find it easier to open up when walking as there is less eye contact and the movement somehow makes it easy to speak.
I have to admit I was sceptical to start with (I started during one of the lockdowns) but both me and my first client found it worked very well and he kept coming for some years thereafter!
I use an eclectic approach, aiming to not only listen, but to come up with strategies that will work for you.
