I currently hold:
First Class Honours Degree in Therapeutic Counselling and Psychotherapy (Level 6)
Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Level 5)
In addition, I have a Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Young People.
I have experience working with both adults and young people who have presented with a range of issues. This includes, but is not limited to, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, self-harm, and loneliness.
Though my core approach is person-centred, I also draw on other therapeutic orientations to support clients' needs and preferences. Techniques from approaches such as CBT and Gestalt therapy can be particularly helpful, depending on the individual. I view therapy as an ongoing dialogue about what feels useful and what doesn't, and together, we can explore which approaches work best for you.
I am a member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), and I hold professional liability insurance with Oxygen
The person centred approach is highly adaptable for working with a range of presentations, some of which are listed above. That being said, personal experience with a hidden illness has demonstrated the relative lack of support for individuals experiencing physical illness that may not be obvious to others at first glance. This covers a range of illnesses, from chronic conditions such as Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), to autoimmune diseases, to cognitive disabilities such as ADHD and dyslexia. Supporting people adapting to such challenges is a particular passion of mine.
I recognise how confusing it can be to choose the therapist that's right for you. With so many different approaches on offer, and each practitioner holding a variety of qualifications and working within different ethical frameworks, it's understandable to feel unsure.
With this in mind, I offer a no-cost, confidential 30 minute introductory meeting. This offers several potential benefits. Firstly, it's a chance for us to meet and for you to get a sense of what working together might be like. Secondly, as well as providing practical information - such as where the therapy will take place and what the room is like - it's an opportunity to explore whether you feel I would be a good match for you.
Though there are significant differences between therapeutic approaches, one conviction many share is that the therapeutic relationship is a key factor in successful therapy. This initial meeting then, is a space for you to decide if my offering feels right for you, and for me to consider how I can best support you. I approach this with openness and hope, balanced by a commitment to ethical practice. If I believe your needs would be better served by someone with specialist knowledge or deeper experience in a particular area, I can help guide you toward more appropriate support.
