Stephen Fox
Psychotherapist in Cambridge

I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist with over 25 years' clinical experience, offering a supportive, confidential, and non-judgemental space in which to explore difficulties and create lasting change. My approach is collaborative and tailored to each individual, helping clients gain insight, develop resilience, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

I work with adults seeking support with relationship issues, anxiety, depression, and personal or professional development. Whether you are facing a specific problem or feeling stuck or overwhelmed, I aim to help you understand what is happening beneath the surface and find practical, meaningful ways to improve your wellbeing and quality of life.

Prior to qualifying as a psychotherapist, I worked as an entrepreneur, business consultant and as a sales and negotiation trainer. I was awarded my post graduate diploma in 1997 by the CCPE (Centre for Counselling & Psychotherapy Education). I am a full member of the UKCP. I also hold a post-graduate diploma in 'counselling and psychotherapy supervision' and a certificate in CBT from the Beck Institute.

In addition to my private practice, I have worked as a counsellor within the NHS and for several mental health charities.

Approach to Psychotherapy & How I Work

I work in an integrative way, drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches so that our work is shaped around you, rather than limited to a single model. This allows therapy to be flexible and responsive, adapting to what you are experiencing and what feels most helpful at different stages of the process.

My original training was in Transpersonal Psychotherapy, and I also draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Gestalt Therapy, and Process-Oriented Psychotherapy. Different approaches can be useful at different times, and together we will find a way of working that best supports your needs, goals, and pace.

Alongside training and experience, the quality of the therapeutic relationship is central to how I work. Clients often describe me as approachable and value the calm, confidential, and non-judgemental space I offer. I work with warmth, empathy, and respect, helping you feel heard, understood, and supported. Even when working with difficult or painful issues, I believe there is room for humanity, humour, and lightness where appropriate, as these can be an important part of healing and change.
