I have extensive experience working with trauma with clients experiencing domestic abuse, and supporting young people.
I work with individuals and couples, in-person and online.
We are all unique and my job is to get to know you, find out what you want from therapy and for us, together, to work out what way of working is going to suit you. For example, you may want to share things you have never told anyone before and need time and space to feel heard and accepted, without judgement. Or, you may benefit from a more scientific approach where we look at your experiences and their impact from a cognitive or trauma-based perspective.
Whichever way our time together develops, I will offer you my respect, compassion and knowledge. It is my role to develop a safe and open relationship with you, so you have space to truly be yourself, with permission to feel and experience emotions, perhaps previously hidden or that you have felt are unacceptable. This can lead you to a deeper understanding of how your experiences have shaped you and lead to greater self-compassion and sense of self.
I find some clients benefit from being sent material (articles, information relevant to them) outside of session for them to read and reflect on. This is not for all clients, but I take an active role in offering this support if helpful.
