Tina  Speed
Relationship Therapist in London

I believe that looking to our past experiences, environment and relationships helps us make changes in the present; that getting to know ourselves in a new way can give us more choice over how we think, feel and behave. I also believe that you have inherent value and are best placed to know yourself. I see my role as working with you to make sense of things and supporting you to get to where you want to be. I provide a respectful, sincere, and accepting space to focus on you.

Background & Relationship Therapy Qualifications

I'm a fully qualified Counsellor and Therapist (Co. Dip) and Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP Accred).

I've provided counselling services for MIND and the NHS, supporting those experiencing life challenges and common mental health problems. I have also volunteered at Solace Women's Aid, acting as a first point of contact for those experiencing domestic abuse and sexual violence. I currently work with The Family Relationship Centre (previously Relate), supporting couples who want to improve or make changes to their relationships.

My Specialisms

I often work with individuals who experience anxiety, overwhelm, burnout and relationship challenges. I support people to build awareness, confidence, self-worth, and self-care. I work with people to make positive changes by challenging their fears, doubts and criticisms and by drawing on their courage, curiosity and compassion.

I work with couples who experience conflict, disconnect, blocks to sex and intimacy, and attachment challenges. I support couples to build awareness, understanding, trust, and healing. I work with people to make positive changes to their relationships through shared goals and expectations, commitment, clear communication, and respect.

I have specific training in working with couples, attachment, grounding techniques, mentalising, abuse and trauma, grief and loss, gender awareness, and equality and access.

I also have many years of experience in the music industry and often work with people in arts and media, as well as those for whom music is an important part of their lives.

Approach to Relationship Therapy & How I Work

I offer in-person counselling in North London in Kentish Town, Camden (NW5) and Highbury, Islington (N5). This can work well if you want to talk in a neutral space, away from your home and everyday life. I offer online counselling for those who prefer to communicate by phone or video. This can work well if you have access to a quiet space where you can talk privately and without interruptions.

I encourage people to attend counselling on the same day at the same time each week. This is because regular therapy is often the most effective way to make a positive change. I offer time-limited therapy and open-ended therapy with regular reviews to make sure that we're both satisfied with how the work is going.

I'm committed to an ethical framework that ensures my work is safe and puts your wellbeing and choices at the centre of any work we do. Past clients have described feeling heard and understood, supported without judgement, better able to understand and express themselves, feeling confident and resourceful, and empowered by change having come from them.

If you're interested to work with me, the first step is usually to send me an email. I will then share my current availability and, if this matches yours, we would then arrange an initial session. This would is a moment to share information, discuss how we might work together, and get a feel for what it's like to talk. This conversation would be at no cost and with no pressure to commit to further sessions.
